Ricky Gervais Returns

Apparently the big network NBC, loved British accent comedian, Rick Gervais' routine this year at the Golden Globes. Apparently they loved him so much they have him set to return next January. Apparently they loved him so much they wanted to waste no time, and book him 9 months in advance.

Well America certainly agrees with the station, because the ratings went up 12% this year. "I can't believe they invited me back after awful things I said," Gervais said in a statement. "Let's see how far I can go this time."

Personally, I think Gervais is maybe the funniest man on the planet today, and I think him pushing the envelope and not caring about pretty much anything said is what we are so attracted too. I watched the Golden Globes via Youtube and he was hilarious. More award shows should follow suite, it really made for great TV.

ABC Hopeful for a New Game Show

So it appears America has yet another network game show to be watchful for this year. The Hollywood Reporter announced that ABC has ordered 6 episodes of "The Six" from Merv Griffin Entertainment. The show is originally called "What? Where? When?" and is completely different than anything we’ve seen in the states. In the Russian version, a team of six in-studio players spin a wheel and answer the question the wheel lands on. This "logic based" questions are sent from viewers and the six get 60 seconds to answer it. A right answer earns them a point and a wrong answer gives the other side a point, as well as that home viewer a prize.

MGE and ABC are making the necessary adjustments in order to make it more prime-time friendly in the US, but the aspect that will remain is the questioning style. This game show isn't built on trivia but logic. Creators of the game felt that groups of 6 would stress teamwork rather than traditional game show knowledge.

“It’s much more accessible knowledge and intelligence than you would think at a first glance that translates to the viewers at home, and they can play along,” Merv Griffin Entertainment’s Roy Bank said. “It’s a show about teamwork and interaction.”

Ratings, Nothing Personal

Leno vs. O'Brien may have been an NBC dream as far as ratings are concerned. A year ago Leno was given the prime-time 10PM spot, in exchange for his regular 11:30PM show. This resulted in the adjustment of fellow night talk show host O'Brien. Long story short, Leno's show didn't exactly get the ratings the network expected so, NBC moved him back to his original 11:30PM slot. O'Brien, who has a larger following of younger viewers than Leno, was then bumped off the network entirely.

Letterman, who in the 90's battled with Leno during the 11:30PM slot, takes shots at Leno, and NBC. "He's a complete boob. He can't help himself," Letterman said on his show last week. Despite these jokes by Letterman and other night show host, such as Kimmel, Leno remains No. 1 in the late-night, 11:30PM ratings.

Now apparently, O'Brien is taking the cable route and is headed to TBS some time in the near future. He is also scheduled to appear on "60 Minutes," to discuss his opinion of the Leno controversy in depth.

Avatar Explodes Again

Although comparisons may be true, "Avatar" perhaps did numbers in months that "Pocahontas" has yet too. In the most lopsided home-video victory in recent memory, "Avatar" catapulted to the top of all three national video charts during its first week in stores.

Unsurprisingly, the top-grossing theatrical film of all time sold 6.7 million units in its first four days of release. 2.7 million of this units were sold on Blu-ray.

According to the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart, the next biggest-selling release of the week was "Crazy Heart," which sold just 5 percent as many copies as "Avatar," followed by "The Lovely Bones," which finished at No. 3 with 2.9 percent of "Avatar's" sales.

On the Nielsen VideoScan Blu-ray Disc chart, the difference was even more pronounced: "Crazy Heart" sold just 1.7 percent as many Blu-ray Discs as "Avatar."

On Home Media Magazine's rental chart, "Crazy Heart" finished the week as the No. 2 rental, with 31 percent as much activity as "Avatar." "The Lovely Bones" debuted at No. 4, with 23 percent as much rental action. "Sherlock Holmes" was No. 3, after three weeks at No. 1.

There's a Season 9?

Honestly, don't know how this show managed to stay on the air. Maybe there are official ratings or television fans I'm not counting correctly, but this season is almost over.

After thousands of auditions, hundreds of on-stage performances, dozens of finalists, and a few laughs and blooper reels, "American Idol" is down to just a handful. Only five remain in this seasons competition.

Out of curiosity, how did American Idol make it 9 entire seasons. The buzz fell through after season 4 in my opinion. Is Simon still even signed? Do you even know American Idol was still on air?

The "Iron Man" Returns?

Reuters reports, Tony Stark is back! This go round however, Stark is no longer enjoying his superstar acclaim while saving the word. Instead, he is fighting his own military. Government officials of the US insists that he hand over his superhero suit to the military, but Starks or Iron Man rather refuses.

Gweneth Paltrow returns to the saga as "Pepper Potts," who Stark promotes from assistant to CEO of his Stark Industries. At the same time, Stark needs to solve the mystery behind new character, Russian villain "Ivan Vanko," (a.k.a Whiplash) played by Mickey Rourke.

Rounding out the new cast is Scarlett Johansson, sporting red hair as "The Black Widow," Sam Rockwell as weapons manufacturer "Justin Hammer" and Don Cheadle replaces Terrence Howard in the role of "Lt. Col. James Rhodes."

The film opens in Europe, Asia and Australia, a week before hitting the US on May 7.
